On what the platform does. GetSourceDirect publishes listings and routes inquiries. It does not process payments, hold buyer funds, arrange shipping or adjudicate disputes, and a reviewed profile is not a certification or an audit. See sourcing safety for where the line falls.
Why Korean Cosmetics Are Widely Sourced
South Korea has a substantial cosmetics manufacturing industry, and many formulations
developed by Korean manufacturers are sold internationally — frequently under different
brand names and at very different prices in different markets.
A single contract manufacturer in Seoul or Busan may produce for several brands at once,
which is normal in cosmetics manufacturing. The same base formulation can reach the
market as a premium product, a mid-market product and a budget product, differentiated
by packaging, marketing spend and the channel it is sold through.
What Korean Beauty Manufacturers Produce
South Korean factories specialise in:
Skincare
- Serums and essences (glass skin technology)
- Sheet masks (invented in Korea)
- Sunscreens (highest SPF technology globally)
- Moisturisers and creams
- Exfoliants and toners
Makeup
- BB and CC creams
- Cushion foundations
- Lip products
Hair Care
- Scalp treatments
- Hair masks and serums
The K-Beauty Price Reality
Korean cosmetics are sold in Western markets through importers, distributors and
retailers, each of whom adds a margin before the product reaches a shelf. Buying from
the producer removes those steps, so the quoted price is closer to the cost of making
and exporting the product.
How much that changes the final figure depends on the product, the order quantity,
shipping and import duties. It is not a fixed percentage, and any list of retail-versus-
factory prices presented as a general rule should be treated sceptically: retail prices
vary by market and by when they were recorded, and factory prices vary by quantity and
specification. Ask for a full quotation including freight and duties before comparing.
Why the Retail Price Is Higher
The gap between a manufacturer's quote and a Western shelf price comes from the steps
between them, plus what each party spends on reaching the customer:
- Manufacturing cost — the formulation, the ingredients, the packaging and the labour.
- Export and freight — getting the goods out of Korea and into the destination market.
- Import duties and local taxes — charged at the border, on the landed value.
- Distributor and retailer margins — both businesses need to cover their own costs.
- Brand marketing — the largest variable, and the reason two products from the same
factory can sit at very different prices.
How much each of those contributes changes with the product, the quantity, the market
and the season. No fixed split applies, and we do not publish one.
What to Check Before Ordering
Confirm the formulation, not just the category. Ask for the ingredient list with
concentrations, and confirm it is the same formulation you will receive.
Ask about regulatory compliance in your market. Cosmetic ingredients face different
rules in different jurisdictions, and import requirements vary. A formulation legal in
Korea may need different documentation, labelling or registration where you are selling.
The platform does not advise on this.
Agree what happens if goods do not match a sample, in writing, with the seller.
No party to this platform will adjudicate that for you.
Finding Korean Cosmetics Suppliers
Browse the Beauty and Cosmetics category to see businesses that have published listings
in it. Each profile shows the terms the business supplied: unit price, currency, minimum
order quantity and country.
A business marked as reviewed has had its registration and profile checked internally
before approval. That is a review, not a certification or an audit, and it makes no
statement about formulation quality or about how any specific order will turn out.
